Understanding that students have experiences beyond school, the WHS counseling staff recognizes the need to address personal concerns for our students as they arise.
We encourage our students to reach out to their counselor to discuss any matter.
Some common examples:
- Students in need of a safe space to discuss social, emotional, and mental health concerns
- Social conflict
- Personal or family challenges
- Referral to outside resources (e.g. long-term therapy)
- Self-regulation and emotional skill building
Confidentiality
Our goal as counselors is to make sure that we create a safe environment, build rapport, and establish trust with our students. Therefore, we must respect the student’s privacy so that they are free to explore issues, feelings and behaviors. Most information that is shared with a counselor is protected by confidentiality. However, in order to ensure the safety of our students – first and foremost, there are topics in which information that is shared cannot be considered confidential.

Guidance & Counseling Department at SIS
At our school, guidance and counselling is school-wide, it is an integral part in reinforcing psychological and mental wellbeing and health among our community of students, teachers and parents, providing social & emotional support in order to meet the diverse needs of our community.
This counsellor provides general information, advise, guidance and facilitates meetings with students, teachers and parents as well as personal consultations with individuals or groups of students. Additionally, students can approach the school counsellor on their own volition or can be referred for counselling by either the teachers or parents.
As the diverse needs of students may require some specific counselling expertise, the counsellor recognises boundaries of competencies and only provides those services for which she is qualified. When students require specialised, intensive or long-term counselling beyond what the school may reasonably be expected to provide, appropriate external referrals are made.
