IGCSE Section at Sandford International School: ​

Sandford International School offers a well-established IGCSE program for students in Year 10 and 11, providing a strong foundation for the subsequent IB course.

Curriculum Highlights:

  • 17 timetabled IGCSE courses with students sitting for 9 exams in May/June each year.
  • Subjects cover Mathematics, English, a modern Foreign Language, at least one Science, and one Humanity.
  • Flexibility for students to take additional subjects

The IGCSE program at Sandford International School prepares students comprehensively for the IB course, ensuring a seamless and successful transition.

IB Diploma Programme at Sandford International School:

At Sandford International School, our Year 12 and 13 students predominantly pursue the globally recognized IB Diploma Programme, a comprehensive qualification renowned for its academic rigour. Tailored for students aged 16-19, this broad-based program encourages critical thinking and leadership development.

Students select one subject from each of the following six areas:

  • Language and Literature
  • Language Acquisition
  • Individuals and Societies
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • The Arts (or a second subject from the aforementioned groups)

In addition to academic subjects, IB Diploma students undertake The Core, comprising:

Theory of Knowledge (TOK): Encourages critical reflection on the nature of knowledge.

Extended Essay (EE): Involves a 4,000-word independent research project.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): Requires participation in extracurricular and community service activities.

To join the IB Diploma Programme, students need 8 IGCSEs at A*- C, including three at a B grade or better. This ensures they can excel in three subjects at a higher level. Those not meeting these requirements may pursue the IB Certificate programme with a minimum of 5 IGCSEs at A*- C, including English and maths.
